What drives you as an individual?
Hard work and a repetitive behavioral pattern. I push myself to be the best at everything I do by doing it to the best of my ability. If it challenges me, I repeat my efforts until I can get it right. I’m also driven by passion, I think being passionate about something just makes me perform better because my whole attention is fixed on it. I can’t deviate from anything if I have love for it. My external environment is also a driving force for my desire to succeed. I source a lot of inspiration from the people around me – my peers and remarkable people who do exceptional work in their areas of expertise.
What forms of obstacles did you have to get over before getting where you are?
One of the toughest obstacles I’ve had to overcome was the pressure I inflicted on myself by trying to conform to societal norms such as “social media standards”. it’s okay not to have a car in your early twenties, it’s okay not “ball out” and pop bottles like millennials do. I had to learn how to keep my eyes on my own plate and focus on my own goals and dreams. It was important for me to block out all the negative energy that goes around on a daily basis. By doing that, I managed to get a lot more done and achieve so many things in a short space of time. I discovered that focusing on myself enables me to move at my own speed, there’s so much personal growth when I only compete with myself and try to become better than I was the day before. Another obstacle that I believe hampers productivity and success is procrastination, I used to leave a lot of things for the last hour in high school and that backfired drastically. Ever since I got to university and started my own company, I do tasks immediately when I receive them. My mantra is to just get it out of my way and live my best life.
Where does your company sit in your industry? What would you like people to associate it with?
We’re a startup investment company and we’re only 18 months old so there’s a lot of work to be done. We’re still in the early development stages, but we’ve seen steady growth over the time we’ve been established and we intend on growing exponentially. Ultimately, we’re positioning ourselves to becoming a fully accredited investment firm in the long run. A black owned investment company. I believe that our industry needs that and we are the catalysts. In terms of association, we prefer being outliers. Value is the only variable we want to be associated with.
What does hard work mean to you?
Doing what I know I have to do even on the days when I don’t feel like it. We need to keep running even if we’re losing our speed and strength. It’s important to never stop running.
What is next for you and your company?
The company has expanded its operational services. When we got into the game, all we focused on was forex/currencies. Our paradigm shifted as we started growing and we now have an array of services that we offer to our clients. We currently offer consulting services in stocks, bonds, indices, currencies and money markets. We’re not like your typical forex academy that you see on social media every second day. We’re an investment management consulting company. Our responsibility is to steer our clients in the direction where they can invest for value and growth.
